What exceedingly subtle scheme can stand before a counsellor whose natural acuity is joined with learned knowledge?

மதிநுட்ப நூலோ டுடையார்க் கதிநுட்பம்
யாவுள முன்னிற் பவை.

Even after learning formal methods, act with an understanding of how the world is actually operating now.

செயற்கை யறிந்தக் கடைத்து முலகத்
தியற்கை யறிந்து செயல்.

Even when the ruler destroys offered counsel and remains ignorant, the counsellor nearby still owes him beneficial truth.

அறிகொன்றறியா னெனினு முறுதி
யுழையிருந்தான் கூறல் கடன்.

One minister beside the ruler who secretly plans harm brings greater danger than an immense multitude of open enemies.

பழுதெண்ணு மந்திரியிற் பக்கத்துட் டெவ்வோ
ரெழுபது கோடி யுறும்.
