நகையுள்ளு மின்னா திகழ்ச்சி பகையுள்ளும்

Because it rests in those who have the quality, the way of the world goes on; were it not to rest there, it would sink into the earth and be lost.

பண்புடையார்ப் பட்டுண் டுலக மதுவின்றேன்
மண்புக்கு மாய்வது மன்.

Though they have a sharpness like the sharpness of a file, those who lack the quality proper to good people are like a tree.

அரம்போலுங் கூர்மைய ரேனு மரம்போல்வர்
மக்கட்பண் பில்லா தவர்.

Even towards those who conduct hostility rather than friendship and do things without grace, failing to perform one's own quality is, for a person of discernment, the lowest place.

நண்பாற்றா ராகி நயமில செய்வார்க்கும்
பண்பாற்றா ராதல் கடை.

For those who cannot mingle with anybody and be glad within, this vast and mighty world lies in the portion of darkness even at midday.

நகல்வல்ல ரல்லார்க்கு மாயிரு ஞாலம்
பகலும்பாற் பட்டன் றிருள்.

Great wealth obtained by one who lacks the quality is like good milk that has turned, through a fault in the vessel it was received into.

பண்பிலான் பெற்ற பெருஞ்செல்வ நன்பாற்
கலந்தீமை யாற்றிரிந் தற்று.
