Who could reproach as failures the warriors who die rather than depart from the vow they had made?

What is as difficult to form as true friendship? Once formed, what other protection is as difficult for hostile action to penetrate?

செயற்கரிய யாவுள நட்பி னதுபோல்

If one asks where friendship sits enthroned, it is in the state of not wavering inwardly and sustaining a friend, wherever one is genuinely able.

What is called shallow understanding? It is the conceit that says, “We possess keen understanding.”

When faults within oneself remain unconcealed, can merely covering bodily nakedness be considered true concealment? That too is shallow understanding.

Who can hope to overpower those able, when hostility rises, to lean away from it and conduct themselves without accepting it?

இகலெதிர் சாய்ந்தொழுக வல்லாரை யாரே
மிகலூக்குந் தன்மை யவர்.

Without affection for one’s circle, without strong support, and without strength oneself, how can one repel an enemy’s force?

If worthy ascetics of great spiritual excellence become angry, what use are a magnificently ordered royal life and vast wealth?

If intoxicated revelry is distressing even before the mother who bore one, how much more so before discerning people?
