How to read the romanization
ā · ī · ū · ē · ō — hold these vowels longer than a, i, u, e, o.
ḻ (ழ) — a distinctive curled Tamil sound, often written “zh”.
ṟ (ற) — a crisp Tamil alveolar sound; doubled ṟṟ is held more strongly.
ṉ (ன்) — the lighter n heard at the end of words such as pakavaṉ.
Doubled consonants are held or strengthened. Romanization is a reading aid; the audio and Tamil script remain the best guides.
உரையில் ‘தம்மொடு நட்புச் செய்தார்’ என்று விரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
Parimelazhagar expands it as those who have formed friendship with oneself.
நட் · டார்; டா நெடில், இரட்டை ட ஒலி தெளிவாக.

friends' need · do-not-complete · good do-not-perform · fine-browed-wife · as-desired live-those
The sentence places two results first: failure to complete a friend's need and failure to perform virtue. The final chunks identify the subject, in the old poetic frame, as one who lives as the beautiful-browed wife wishes. Kuṟai and naṉṟu name different objects, so the two consequences must not be collapsed.
நல் நுதலாள் பெட்டாங்கு ஒழுகுபவர் நட்டார் குறை முடியார்; நன்று ஆற்றார்.
Those who conduct themselves as the beautiful-browed wife desires do not complete their friends' needs; they do not perform good deeds.
In its patriarchal setting, the Kural says that a man who lives entirely as his wife wishes will neither resolve friends' needs nor perform virtue. A modern reading rejects male authority and instead warns against surrendering moral agency to any partner or peer.
Grammar that unlocks the line
‘நட்டார் குறை முடியார்’ முதல் விளைவு; ‘நன்று ஆற்றார்’ இரண்டாவது விளைவு. முதலாவது நண்பரின் குறிப்பிட்ட தேவையைப் பற்ற ியது; இரண்டாவது விரிந்த அறச்செயலைப் பற்றியது.
Naṭṭār kuṟai muṭiyār is the first result and naṉṟu āṟṟār the second. The first concerns a friend's particular need; the second widens to virtuous action.
‘நல்’ அழகிய; ‘நுதல்’ நெற்றி; ‘ஆள்’ பெண்பால். இது மனைவியை உடல் அழகால் குறிப்பிடும் பழைய கவிதை நடை; அற அதிகாரத்திற்கான காரணம் அல்ல.
Nal is fine or beautiful, nutal the brow, and āḷ the woman. It is an old beauty epithet for the wife, not a modern warrant for moral authority.
‘பெட்டாங்கு’ விரும்பியவாறு; ‘ஒழுகுபவர்’ தொடர்ந்து அந்த முறையில் வாழ்பவர். பரிமேலழகர் ‘தாம் வேண்டியவாறு அன்றி’ என ்ற எதிர்மறை வேறுபாட்டை வெளிப்படையாகச் சேர்க்கிறார்.
Peṭṭāṅku means as desired and oḻukupavar those who habitually live that way. Parimelazhagar explicitly contrasts it with acting according to one's own considered wish.
